About Jan

Jan grew up in South Africa and lived in Colombia before moving to the  United States. After graduating from the University of Texas she worked as  a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. In 1983 she moved to St. Petersburg.  For 24 years she taught high school Spanish and French, and during the summers lead student tours throughout Europe.  

Having raised her three children in St. Petersburg, she has an in-depth  knowledge of Pinellas County and its many attractions, from scenic parks  to the world-famous Gulf Coast beaches stretching from Clearwater to  Pass-a-Grille  

She began her real estate career in 2005 with Smith and Associates.  Because of her extensive background in traveling and living overseas she  took courses to earn the designation of Certified International Property  Specialist. She also earned the certification of Military Relocation  Professional. Her two sons, one of whom is a Green Beret, served with  Special Operation teams in Iraq and Afghanistan from 2007- 2014.  

A downtown resident since 2000, Jan has seen first-hand the city’s growth  into a vibrant cultural destination with renowned museums and art galleries.  She is passionate about the performing arts, regularly attending the Florida  Orchestra and St Petersburg Opera, and is an avid ballroom dancer who  devotes several hours each week to refining her skills.
